  1. Usually if the monitor makes hissing and popping noises at the back it means that the connection from the LOPT (transformer) to the anode on the screen is loose, there is a way of fixing this but it wont always work. BEWARE THAT THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. THERE ARE VOLTAGES IN EXCESS OF 30000 VOLTS AND THE TUBE CAN IMPLODE CAUSING A GREAT DEAL OF INJURY. THIS IS NOT FOR IDIOTS - YOU PERFORM THIS CHECK AT YOUR OWN RISK - I WILL NOT BE HELD RESPONSIBLE FOR ANY DEATH OR INJURY AS A RESULT OF THIS. THIS CAN KILL YOU. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!

Anyway, unplug your monitor and take the back off. The first thing you should see is a red cable going from the circuit board to the tube (the screen). You need 2 LONG metal screwdrivers WITH PLASTIC HANDLES. Slide 1 screwdriver underneath the plastic cup touching the metal prongs inside the plastic cup and hold the other screwdriver on the grey painted surface of the screen. Touch the metal parts of the screwdriver together and hold them there for at least 30 seconds. Slide your fingers underneath the plastic cup and pull it away from the tube. Check the 2 metal prongs for any sign of damage and if they are both OK then place them back in the hole making sure that the 2 prongs do not touch when they are in. Press the plastic cup gently, put the cover back on the monitor and then turn it on. If it continues to hiss and pop then it might be a problem with the LOPT its self which will need to be sent in for servicing to change it. Hopefully this advice will help and you wont kill yourself.

  2. Hey, I found out how to get multiple monitors working on linux and thought I might share it with everyone.

    1. Open a console and type gksudo nvidia-settings

    2. Go to X Server Display Configuration.

    3. Enable the second monitor by clicking Configure and selecting TwinView.

    4. Click Apply to test your settings (windows may be maximised across both monitors, dont worry, all will be fixed when X is restarted).

    5. Once you are happy click Save to X configuration file and click save again.

    6. Log out, press CTRL + ALT + BACKSPACE to restart X and log back in.

    7. With any luck you should have 2 monitors working.

Be aware that I have only tested this on Ubuntu 7.10 Gutsy Gibbon and it may not necesarrily work on other versions of ubuntu or linux. You do this at your own risk and if your graphics card decides to go bang or something like that then I accept no responsibility for any damage caused, not that following this advice would cause much damage.

I watched your youtube channel before and I think some of the videos on there are really informative, especially your Broadcasting Tips video. As soon as i get a camera which shouldnt be too long now I'm gonna try out ustream. Anyway, keep up the good work.

P.S If by some freak chance I do win (very unlikely, i have very little luck) and you have to pay taxes or something then I would be more than happy to help with costs, I'm not just saying that to increase my chance of winning, I think its great that your making the effort for us to win a copy of windows vista.
