did you try safe mode and i think that is what you should have done when you deleted nortons it is an over rated over bloated hard to get rid of program try safe mode then post back if you can get a xp disk we maybe able to replace that file marty

some times a frozen screen is caused by hard ware not seated properly and as tt posted. dust bunnies check all your hard ware and make sure the right drivers are installed and make sure the hardware cards are seated in the slots and last make sure you dont have a virus most times this is the reason and posters are reluctant to admit it how how did you post to the board did you use some one elses compt ive never lost my disk marty

yes i agree with pete prior to installing vista i used thunderbird which has to be trained for email spam but the VISTA mail hasent allowed spam mail into my sys the other plus which ive used is to complicate my email address with advice from my isp is to jumble up the letters and numbers the other thing i learned is not to publish your email address on the web if you do your a target if you read a post on this site about some of the worst spammers came from new zealand well i wasent touched but may friends were badly affected those bastards are now in jail as here it is an offence t

hi test what sort of specs do you need to run 8.4 in regards to cpu- memory- ect the compt i want ot use has a cpu at 1 gig memory 512 mgs a 16gig hdd i have an 80hdd if i need to would a partitioned hdd work in the past ive used the full drive with negtive results and what so annoyng in the years ive used linux this is the first time ive had problems ive tried cleaning the drive i have a floppy here that sends your hdd to zero and a maxtor floppy that cleans and formats maybe using a partition will work marty

ime not having sucess with ubuntu 8.4 on two machines i get a freezing curser and ime not able to install ime sure it has to do with sys specs i can install all versions up to this bugger and when i install 7.10 it gives me the option to upgrade to 8.4 which ive tried several times but it aborts the install i have a compt with bigger specs but i have vista on it and ime not sure if 8.4 will install on that sys if it dosent and corrupts vista ime in that stuff so if any one can give me ideas i would appreciate it ive emailed the center concerned but havent recieved a reply i think linu

you can also defrag in the command prompt using vista but you need to have adminstrative permission in win exp go to run- type -cmd press enter or ok at the blinking curser type defrag c: press enter if you need to defrag your prefetch folder as well at the prompt type defrag c: b: this is done in win xp marty [buggered if i can find adminstrative permission in vista]

hi matt when i first bought the disk i tried it on an older compt but it was telling me an error occured and the install would have to be aborted so i tried it on a newer machine i had here but it wouldnt install but by accden foundt i had to up grade from ex home to vista what a load of crap there was no mention of this on the instalation info so i started on the wrong foot from the word go and after reading your post i know why now i cant get the sys to recognise my printer who started me off on compts thanks marty ----------------------------------------------------------------------
