  1. http://www.pcpitstop.com/techexpress.asp?id=CE9STWBLM6GSPL9G is the link. looks to be running decently. just did a defrag check, and apparently my c: drive is 48% fragmented... i think after i get it defragged it may pick up a bit. rescanned with avast!, avg, SBs&d, all clean. i think the problem now is just the lack of storage space on the drives. i appreciate all the help you've provided!
  2. Well thank you so much for your assistance. It's still a bit slow, but considerably faster than before all the scans and cleaning. maybe im just due for an upgrade. well thanks again for your help, and have a great easter!

  6. Hello, It's been a while since I've posted here, which is a good thing seeing that the fixes you provided last time were extremely helpful. However, as of late my computer has begun to run extremely sluggish, and slow, with quick freezes every so often. I do not recall installing anything new, but I do share the computer with my parents who are extremely computer illiterate. It might be possible that either of them may have contracted something from the web. In addition to this, my Windows partition has gotten filled to the max, with only 150MB free out of 15GB. I rarely install programs on t
  7. It is a Sony Vaio laptop, was purchased from Circuit city, and she is not currently in possession of any drivers or software. Recalling a while ago, i checked out her windows updates, and noticed she had been neglecting them for some time. There was almost a years worth of updates that had not been installed, and the computer was not protected. One of the updates listed was Service Pack 2. When i noticed this, not thinking, i immediately installed them, without scanning the system to be sure it was free from adware and viruses. There were in fact a few spyware programs and viruses present on
  8. No, it is not. I'd also like to add that the laptop is not currently in my possession as my gf needs it for work/school so i may be slow in responding with answers to these problems.
  9. yup, ive tried uninstalling the drivers, resulted in the item becoming useless. when New uninstalled devices are plugged into the port, there is a ding showing that it recognizes an item is connected, however it is not the same as when it is actually recognizing a piece of hardware. sounds more like an error ding. also noticed that in MY add/remove programs, while showing updates - Service Pack 2 is visible. On her laptop it is not. It is a Sony vaio by the way. Thanks for the help, but i still believe it is something else.
  10. Prior to reading up on the forums, and doing a full system scan, SP2 was installed on my girlfriend's system :/ Turns out there were several instances of adware, spyware, and a few viruses, which have since been removed after the installation of SP2. Though nothing seemed to be malfunctioning at the time, after purchasing a new digital camera, it came to my attention that no NEW usb devices were being recognized. I tried uninstalling one of the previously installed devices and then reinstalling it to confirm this, and it too would not be recognized. Curious to know if this is a common problem
  11. yes, its a new sony vaio, just over a year old. USB 2.0
  12. it is a sony vaio, and yes all previously installed/attached USB devices work properly if removed/reattached. to test, i uninstalled all software relating to one of the devices - her printer, and tried re-attaching, and the same thing happened with the 3 short beeps. I tried removing all information pertaining to usb devices from device manager, and there was no luck in the reattachment of the new devices. =\
  13. yeah, i tried installing drivers/software first and there was a problem, something about not being compatible and the possibility of causing an error in windows?... either way, no new usb devices will be recognized, my usb flash drive was recognized, her printer, and her scanner were all recognized, but my camera, her new camera, my ipod, the memory card reader, my usb keyboard, usb headset, usb mouse, none of them would read on her laptop, all the same with the 3 beeps :\
  14. after trying to install a new digital camera on my girlfriend's laptop, i realized all new usb devices are not recognized. camera would not install-- i tried purchasing a USB memory card reader which also would not be recognized by the laptop. upon plugging in the device three short low beeps play and there is no prompt indicating the recognition of a new device. any ideas??
  15. after uninstalling Norton, and mcafee, then reinstalling mcafee and rebooting, my problem seems to have been cured as far as the internet explorer inability to access secured sites. everything seems to be working fine, except for a window that pops up at startup prompting me to "Insert Recovery Disc 1" from VAIO Application Recovery Wizard. aside from that small nuisance, everything works fine, and much quicker now that all the malware and virii have been removed. thank you again.
