  1. OH MY GOSH! I totally forgot about it.........HAHAHAHAHAHA.....I wondered why everyone was giving me booze last night. Damn numbers are piling up but I guess as long as they keep makin' smokes and booze I will be OK.....Thank you all for the accolades and concern, I can assure you it is appreciated.....

  2. I see The Letter K and Uberpenguine are on so I ask this. What would you recommend as a transition program for going from Windoze to Linux? I mean the people are not all that sharp on Windoze let alone any Unix based system......Hhahaha.....And that applies to me also.....I am sorry it's so general but I really have no idea what the feds are going to do next....

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

'transition program'? Speaking plainly, what are you wanting to do? Be as specific as possible.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Well there is no "IT" person who runs the show so to speak so everyone is responsible for their own stuff. For example backing up you stuff to the server and etc. Now everyone knows how to use Acronis, install programs and etc. Now with Linux you have this RPM stuff and dependency's and crap.....hahahahahaha....I mean I am getting lost just typing this. We have Macs which NO ONE will go near for whatever reasons. So I guess my question is what Linux package is the most "Windows" like?

  4. the more and more i learn about this guy and his qualifications it sounds like he got his jobs for being buddies with powerful people and not because he could do the job..."

Hrm... Sounds like a president we all know... Oh well, lets blame the terrorists!

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

To bad we cannot get rid of GW that easily.....

  5. ugh, maybe I am tired from working too much this week, but I cannot figure this out ~ and will kick myself when I see the answer

I rebuilt several PCs this week, now I am on my last case. This is a Win 98 machine on a network and the only purpose of this machine on the network is for guys to read email through Outlook Express and occasionally browse to some Chevy sites for images.

I ripped out all the guts on 5 machine totally so I could clean, replace RAM, bad HDs, etc. This machine is a Pentium 3 processor @ 700 Mhz. In one PCI slot is a Promise Technology Ultra 66 V 1.14 card (will take the transfer speed from 33 to 66 Mb ~ with all the right conditions). I could care less about this and only want the HD hooked up to the mobo and skip this. I formatted this HD on another machine so is blank and ready for Win 98 to go on it.

Here is the problem, when I boot the machine it says Ultra 66 not found..... error.

So I go into the BIOS to see how to disable it an enable the onboard ATA controller. It seems there is no option to do this , or I am blind and too tired  How can I get this off the BIOS entirely and not get this error anymore ?

Any BIOS option to reset to default? Or maybe take the battery out and see if it reverts back......just guessing you see......Hahahahahaha.....

  6. Anyone hear from Tenmm lately?  I know he usually posts just about every day and it seems like he's been MIA for a awful long time. I know he was on vacation, but he posted during his time in AZ.

    Liz

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Good point Liz, I haven't seen him for a bit. I hope he comes back.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

Maybe Marsh and Tenmm are having a blast out in AZ eh?......

  7. hey guys...just curious...this pertains to WINME...if I copy my windows installation disk to my D drive can I run setup from D drive  if i want to do a clean install ?  do I need anything else?  can I just put in my setup floppy, format C, and type in D:setup?  this sounds too easy.  any remarks from the eggsperts?

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

    Should work.....

  8. Doesn't anyone know how to carry out those instructions? :(

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I would get TMPGenc and in the MPG Tools choose the simple demux. This will separate the video and audio streams. I would then recode to whatever file type you would like, mpg, avi, and etc. This should correct the sync or audio problems. Well not always but it has worked for me before.....

  9. I have been downloading TWIT and I noticed an issue with bittorrent.  When the download completes, I just close the app out of reflex.  Now that didn't seem fair for me not to seed for a while. So, I got to thinking about setting up my machine to seed at night.

Is there a way to run bittorrent so that it is just seeding in the background.  The scripting and the Cron job aren't an issue, I know that part.  I am just a bittorrent noob.

      TIA,

          BH

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I run Azureus and it will do what you want. When you are done with the download you can exit the program and do whatever. All you have to do is just run Azureus again and it will seed anything you have downloaded. It will run in the background with no problems.......

  11. I got a job fixing a computer for the beauty salon my wife works at. As a precaution to not losing any data, I would like to make a perfect bootable copy of the harddrive on a spare I have. What would a reliable, possibly free(or inexpensoive) utility be to do this.

If I made a mistake on the original harddrive, i would like to be able to just put my copy of the harddrive in and boot it.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

There are about a million of them but I know someone who uses this one Cobain Backup 7

Forgot to mention this is shareware......

  12. A flaw in MicroSoft software? That's SO hard to believe!

I take it the XP firewall does NOT automatically update, as most aftermarket firewalls do? <edit> Oh, wait, I see, the fix will be included with the next service patch. Whenever that is. Nevermind.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

I don't use the thing anyway but some people might......hahahahaha....poor souls....

  13. Thanks for the links too, though am watching so much of it on tv, that I seem to just keep on crying for all the people.

Just found out when hubby got home tonight that Intel is matching employee "Katrina Relief" donations to Red Cross (and other relief efforts) plus is donating a million dollars in addition to matching funds. So our check will be matched now. At least with that donation, I feel like we did a little something to help people.

    Pat.

    God bless everyone.

    <{POST_SNAPBACK}>

It's kind of scary how fast our society breaks down when you take away the technology......I send some $$ to The Red Cross, I don't know if this is the best organization but I am afraid the scam sites are popping up.....
